Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems has acquired Velocity Medical Solutions, an Atlanta-based developer of software for tracking patient diagnostic and treatment data.
Velocity's software was designed to collect unstructured treatment and imaging data from different systems to display a patient's diagnostic imaging and treatment history, regardless of where the patient was treated or what technology was used, according to Varian. By making such data available in one place, Velocity's software can help clinicians make more informed treatment decisions.
Velocity was founded by clinicians, including Tim Fox, PhD, director of medical physics in the department of radiation oncology at Emory University, and is in use at more than 200 radiation oncology clinics globally. Varian believes that its global sales, distribution, and marketing network will increase sales of the software.
