Varian to outfit National Taiwan University

Radiation oncology firm Varian Medical Systems has received an order from YongLin Healthcare Foundation for its ProBeam proton therapy system.

The YongLin Healthcare Foundation will donate the system for use in a new proton treatment center at the National Taiwan University in Taipei. Under the deal, Varian will also provide its Aria information management and Eclipse treatment planning software. The Varian technology will equip three treatment rooms: two with rotating gantries and one as a fixed-beam room, according to the vendor.

Varian values the agreement at approximately $100 million, including long-term operations and maintenance services. Equipment installation is expected to take place in mid-2017, with patient treatment slated to begin in the second half of 2018, Varian said.
