AMIC nets brachytherapy-related patent

Medical isotope producer Advanced Medical Isotope (AMIC) has received a patent for technology related to its brachytherapy products.

AMIC's rights to the patent (US 8,821,364 B2) arise from its license from Battelle, under which AMIC exclusively licensed technologies developed at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the University of Utah for its proposed brachytherapy products. Brachytherapy is designed to kill cancerous tumors by placing a radiation source inside or next to the treatment area.

AMIC plans to introduce a brachytherapy product based on yttrium-90 for a range of applications for delivering radiation to target sites.
