Sun Nuclear to highlight QA software at ASTRO

Sun Nuclear plans to highlight a work-in-progress application for its patient-specific quality assurance (QA) software, PerFraction 3D, at next week's American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) meeting.

The company will demonstrate a 3D dose calculation on conebeam CT images using PerFraction 3D's daily in vivo patient QA feature. Sun Nuclear expects this application for PerFraction 3D to be available to the market in 2016.

Sun Nuclear will also highlight initial results from its new Monte Carlo dose calculation software for independent patient quality assurance. The software can calculate dose for an intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) case in under three minutes, with results comparable to Varian Medical Systems' Eclipse Acuros package and Sun Nuclear's own graphics processing unit (GPU)-accelerated collapsed cone convolution dose calculator, the company said.
