The first U.S. patient has been treated with radiation oncology firm Elekta's Leksell Gamma Knife Icon.
On March 1, a 52-year-old male patient was treated for a metastatic brain tumor with the device at Sutter Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Center in Sacramento, CA, Elekta said.
Icon is Elekta's latest advance in Gamma Knife radiosurgery. It makes cranial stereotactic radiosurgery available to more patients with fewer side effects, and it offers flexibility for single-dose administration or multiple treatment sessions over time, according to the firm.
