Computer-aided detection (CAD) developer iCAD plans to highlight clinical results regarding the use of its Xoft Axxent brachytherapy system for intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) at the upcoming American Brachytherapy Society (ABS) meeting in Boston.
Dr. Gary Proulx of Exeter Hospital in New Hampshire will present findings from a study that included 94 early-stage breast cancer patients treated with IORT using Xoft. The researchers found that a short course of full-dose radiation in a single treatment had a low rate of local failure and a high rate of cosmesis.
"One hundred percent of patients were very pleased with the treatment experience and treatment outcome on follow-up visits," Proulx said in a statement released by iCAD.
