Mevion Medical Systems said Ackerman Cancer Center (ACC) in Jacksonville, FL, has used its S250 proton therapy system to treat 526 patients in the two years it has been open.
The scanning volume for two years represents a customer record from a single room, Mevion said. The S250 system first began scanning patients at the cancer center on April 30, 2015, and now treats an average of 40 proton therapy patients per day during a 12-hour shift, according to the vendor.
Mevion said ACC is now planning to install a second system: a S250i proton therapy system with Hyperscan pencil-beam scanning technology.
