ASTRO chair set to testify on Medicare payment reform

American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Chair Dr. Brian Kavanagh will discuss Medicare payment reform on November 8 before the U.S. House of Representatives' Energy and Commerce Committee's subcommittee on health.

The Wednesday morning hearing will explore effective health policy reform -- namely the expansion of alternative payment models -- for moving the U.S. health system from volume-based care to value-based care. In his testimony, Kavanagh will emphasize the importance of long-term payment stability for the viability of medical specialties such as radiation oncology, and he will also outline how merit-based physician reimbursement is essential for ensuring patient access to care of the highest quality and value, according to ASTRO.
