Hitachi has secured the first order of its compact proton therapy system from Tokushukai Medical Group for installation at Shonan Kamakura Advanced Medical Care Center in Japan.
The compact proton therapy system offers a 70% reduction in footprint compared with conventional technologies, according to Hitachi. It also features spot-scanning technology to treat certain types of cancer, as well as a conebeam CT scanner with a fully rotating gantry.
Hitachi will display what it calls a "single-room solution" to proton therapy at the upcoming American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) meeting in San Antonio.
