Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems has completed its acquisition of two product lines from Boston Scientific that include drug-loadable microspheres and beads for interventional oncology applications.
Varian acquired Boston Scientific's Oncozene and Embozene Tandem lines of microspheres that can be loaded with therapeutic drugs, as well as its Embozene bead products. The deal was first announced in July.
Varian plans to manufacture and distribute the products with Boston Scientific through transition services agreements to avoid any interruption in service to customers.
The acquisition comes as Varian has been growing its footprint in the interventional oncology market to complement its radiation oncology business. The company previously acquired cryoablation firm Endocare Systems in June.
