GE Medical Systems introduced two new echocardiography scanners at this week's American Society of Echocardiography meeting . Both systems carry the Vivid prefix, which is GE's new brand name for cardiovascular ultrasound products.
Vivid FiVe represents what the vendor calls its annual breakthrough technology for echocardiography, and features a new myocardial visualization technique called tissue tracking. The technique serves as a real-time visualization tool to aid cardiologists in the diagnosis and monitoring of coronary artery disease.
The product leverages technology used in the vendor's digital Vingmed System FiVe, and also includes new features such as 4D imaging and contrast imaging with real time myocardial contrast, according to the Waukesha, WI-based vendor.
GE also introduced a new scanner called Vivid 3, which was developed in response to cardiologist demand for a high-performance scanner to use in offices and clinics. The product incorporates features such as coded octave harmonic imaging, which makes it possible to obtain quality images without frame-rate loss, even from difficult-to-image patients, according to GE.
Another feature, SmartZoom, allows users to magnify a specific cardiac structure and reference its original location. In addition, Vivid 3 provides instant access to stored ultrasound image data during an exam, which minimizes exam time while ensuring precise measurement and analysis, according to the vendor. Users can also instantly view a historical patient exam in the Vivid 3 archive, according to GE.
