Ultrasound technology developer Longport has announced that its Longport Digital Scanner has successfully addressed manufacturing and other requirements necessary for the CE mark. Longport will market the system in Europe under the name Episcan. Its subsidiary, Longport International, will begin receiving the first CE-marked Episcan units in the next week, with commercial roll-out expected in the autumn, according to Swarthmore, PA-based Longport.
The system is a high-resolution, portable, digital ultrasound scanner that captures and reproduces images of soft tissue down to approximately 2 cm, according to the firm. The images are stored in a portable computer and can be e-mailed off-site for interpretation. The company developed LDS for applications such as wound management, identification of potential pressure ulcers, and detection of metastasizing cancer in patients diagnosed with cutaneous malignant melanoma.
