Siemens Ultrasound Group has debuted its 3D Express Ultra-Fast 3D Rendering package for use on its Sonoline Omnia and Sienna ultrasound scanners. 3D Express features freehand, one-touch data acquisition that allows, for example, 3-D images of a fetus to be acquired in one to four seconds with a convex or linear-array transducer, according to the Issaquah, WA-based division of Siemens Medical Systems.
Other key 3D Express features, available on both Omnia and Sienna, include five rendering modes, 3-D zoom, image rotation, and editing capabilities, according to Siemens.
In addition to 3-D reconstruction of fetal facial features, Siemens believes that 3D Express may be a valuable diagnostic tool for illustrating certain fetal abnormalities such as spina bifida, cleft lip/palate, and polydactyl. Subtle features such as low-set ears, facial dysmorphia, or clubbing of feet may also be better assessed, according to the company.
