Due in part to the success of the Vivid 3 Cardiac Ultrasound imaging system and Digitally Encoded Ultrasound (DEU), the ultrasound division of GE Medical Systems has recorded its sixth straight year of growth with sales exceeding $660 million in 2000, according to the company.
GE saw a 30% increase in sales in the U.S. in the areas of vascular, breast, and cardiovascular imaging, according to Omar Ishrak, vice president and general manager of the ultrasound division.
The company also continued to grow in 2000 through several acquisitions, including bone densitometry firm Lunar and Parallel Design, a manufacturer of ultrasound transducers.
