Aloka releases new ultrasound mode

Ultrasound vendor Aloka of Wallingford, CT, has released a new technique for its ProSound series of scanners. Called free angular M-mode, the technique should prove useful for cardiologists and obstetricians, according to the company.

Free angular M-mode allows the M-mode cursor to be angled in any direction regardless of the direction of the ultrasound beam. Aloka called the technique an improvement on conventional scanners, in which the direction of the M-mode cursor is limited to the same direction and angle of the ultrasound beam. The limitation can make it difficult to accurately determine ventricular wall movement, aortic valve morphology, or the dimensions of the cardiac chamber.
