Ultrasound developer Misonix's Focus Surgery affiliate has received regulatory approvals in Europe and Japan for its Sonablate 500 (SB-500) system, which performs ultrasound prostate imaging and treatment.
SB-500 is capable of diagnostic-level imaging of the prostate and minimally invasive image-guided treatment of both benign and cancerous prostate tissue using high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), according to Misonix of Farmingdale, NY. Misonix owns approximately 20% of Focus and has rights to produce its HIFU products.
