SonoSite moves into Germany

Handheld-ultrasound provider SonoSite has opened a direct sales office in Germany. The operation, which opened on January 2, complements other European direct sales efforts in the U.K. and France, according to the Bothell, WA-based firm.

The German office will be managed by Cornel Schoelgens, who will also have responsibility for product distribution to Austria and Switzerland. A 20-year imaging industry veteran, Schoelgens has held positions with GE Medical Systems and Acuson. SonoSite said it plans to also launch direct sales in Spain soon.
