The ultrasound division of Siemens Medical Solutions in Mountain View, CA, has received the CE Mark for the use of its Acuson Cypress echocardiography scanner with the Acuson AcuNav diagnostic ultrasound catheter. The approval will enable Siemens to market the combined products in the European Union, the company said.
Cypress is a miniaturized echocardiography scanner that weighs less than 9 kg, while AcuNav is an intravascular ultrasound catheter that is inserted through the femoral vein of the leg or the jugular vein in the neck, then is maneuvered into the right atrium or right ventricle of the heart. Siemens believes that AcuNav can avoid the need to use more invasive modalities for cardiac studies.
