Dear Ultrasound Insider,
It's often said that variety is the spice of life. But is it the best thing for vascular labs? A new analysis shows that U.S. labs vary greatly in the practice of vascular ultrasound, offering much room for standardization, according to Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) Executive Director Sandra Katanick.
In a session at last week's Leading Edge in Diagnostic Ultrasound conference in Atlantic City, NJ, Katanick presented data from a sample of 100 ICAVL-accredited vascular labs that found numerous sets of diagnostic criteria and techniques in use among the labs.
In other findings, the ICAVL discovered that most labs use a combination of measurements and techniques to arrive at a final diagnosis, and that multiple methods for correlation exist.
