Aloka of Wallingford, CT, will introduce its new ProSound Alpha 10 ultrasound system, featuring eFlow, an enhanced spatial and temporal resolution technique designed to provide detailed visualization and reduced overlapping of blood flow and tissue information.

2005 11 09 11 23 38 706 Aloka notes that eFlow can differentiate the portal vein and hepatic artery, which run parallel to each other. The minute vasculature in a tumor can also be visualized in surrounding tissue to enhance viewing of the carotid artery, for example, for plaque formation.

Another key component of ProSound Alpha 10 is its compound pulse-wave generator, which allows for the design of the transmission waveform to match the clinical application, and precision focus control of high-resolution ultrasound beams to reduce artifacts.

An array of electronic and mechanical scanning methods, in addition to high-performance 4D probes, supports the diagnostic capabilities of ProSound Alpha 10. The system's scalable architecture permits future hardware and software upgrades. The scanner is FDA-cleared and available for shipping in early November; price depends on system configuration.
