Dear Ultrasound Insider,

The use of morphological scoring is effective for differentiating small adnexal masses on transvaginal sonography, according to the results of a prospective multicenter study from Italy.

In addition, descriptive scoring can incorporate criteria to avoid simplistic descriptions of complex masses, the authors wrote in the November issue of the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine. In a trial of 677 consecutive patients, the scoring system yielded sensitivity of 92% and specificity of 77%.
