The South African subsidiary of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) developer U.S. HIFU of Charlotte, NC, has signed an agreement to bring the Sonoblate 500 technology to South Africa for the treatment of prostate disease.
The Sonablate 500 is a HIFU device developed by Focus Surgery of Indianapolis and manufactured by ultrasound technology developer Misonix of Farmingdale, NY. The first treatments with the technology in South Africa will take place at the Wits University Donald Gordon Medical Centre in Johannesburg, according to U.S. HIFU.
