Dear Ultrasound Insider,
The increasing adoption of 3D sonography techniques is opening up opportunities for sonographers, who are called upon to acquire, display, and manipulate the volumes.
The impact of volume sonography is far-reaching, decreasing operator dependence and reducing the time spent scanning, according to James Pennington of Diagnostic Ultrasound Associates in Boston. He spoke during a session at the annual convention of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), held earlier this year in Washington, DC.
In addition, sonographers may be called upon to reconstruct images offline, which will vary their tasks and save physician time, Pennington said.
