GE touts top compact ultrasound rank

GE Healthcare has taken over worldwide market share leadership of the compact ultrasound industry, according to a report recently issued by market research firm Klein Biomedical Consultants.

GE was the market leader with a 43% share, according to the report. The Chalfont St. Giles, U.K.-based vendor said its global compact ultrasound business booked sales of $174 million in 2006, up 74% compared with 2005. Worldwide compact ultrasound revenues reached $67.8 million in the fourth quarter.

Klein Biomedical president Harvey Klein said that GE is expected to move into the undisputed worldwide market leadership position in 2007, and that the firm is expected to remain there through the end of the forecast period (2009).

The compact ultrasound market should top $1 billion in year 2011, with an annual growth rate of 22%, Klein said.
