Compact-ultrasound developer SonoSite of Bothell, WA, said that strong international sales helped the company grow its revenues 16% in the first quarter (end-March 31), although ongoing difficulties in the U.S. market helped contribute to a growing net loss for the period.
For the period, the company posted revenues of $42.8 million, compared with $36.9 million in the first quarter of 2006. The company's net loss for the quarter was $563,000, compared with a net loss of $363,000 in the prior year's first quarter.
The company said its international business is up 25% compared to the year before, while U.S. growth was only 7% higher, as slower growth in the private-office segment offset stronger growth in the company's hospital point-of-care and enterprise businesses. The company said it is taking a number of steps to improve sales to private offices, and that it expects to see its U.S. business strengthen as the year goes on.
