Dear Ultrasound Insider,

Performing a second-look ultrasound is useful for evaluating incidental lesions discovered on breast MRI. That's the conclusion of a pair of Italian studies presented earlier this month at the 2009 European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in Vienna.

In separate studies performed at the University of Verona and the University of Rome "La Sapienza," researchers examined the performance of targeted follow-up ultrasound in evaluating suspicious new lesions found on breast MRI. They found that the lesions identified on the second-look exam were much more likely to be malignant than those unable to be detected on ultrasound.

In other articles we're highlighting this month in your Ultrasound Digital Community, additional research from ECR found that both ultrasound and MRI performed well in imaging dense breasts. For that article, click here.

Also, hand-carried ultrasound systems were recently found to be suitable for focused echocardiography exams by internists.
