Volcano to pursue direct sales in Japan

Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) developer Volcano has terminated its distribution agreement with Japanese distributor Goodman, opening the door for a direct sales initiative in Japan.

The San Diego-based firm has hired more than 40 sales reps and approximately 60 total personnel in Japan, and it expects to complete the customer transition process by the end of the third quarter. The sales force will market Volcano's IVUS technology, functional measurement consoles and disposables, and products currently in development, according to the company.
