SonoSite revenue, income dip in Q2

A slowdown in U.S. hospital capital spending and a stronger U.S. dollar contributed to revenue and income declines for compact-ultrasound developer SonoSite in its second quarter.

For the period (end-June 30), the Bothell, WA-based vendor had worldwide revenue of $52.3 million, down 12% compared with the $59.2 million booked in the second quarter of 2008. SonoSite had net income of $425,000, compared with net income of $1.4 million a year ago.

Although SonoSite did see some improvement in buying trends toward the end of the quarter, the company's forward planning is focused on earnings and cash-flow growth through 2010 as it awaits a recovery in hospital-based capital spending, said president and CEO Kevin Goodwin.
