Dear AuntMinnie Member,
Ultrasound is a better tool for evaluating gallbladder function than scintigraphy in studies using sincalide cholecystokinin (CCK), according to new research we're featuring this week in our Ultrasound Digital Community.
Senior editor Erik L. Ridley reports on how Ohio researchers administered CCK to stress the gallbladder and then examined patients with both ultrasound and scintigraphy. They found that ultrasound was cheaper, more reproducible, and faster than the nuclear medicine technique. Find out how much better by clicking here.
In other ultrasound news, international editor Eric Barnes offers this article on a computer-aided detection (CAD) algorithm from Taiwan and South Korea that analyzes 3D breast ultrasound images for signs of pathology. The researchers believe the technique could lead to faster and more accurate whole-breast ultrasound exams.

Merge comeback
In other news, in our PACS Digital Community we're featuring a profile on the rise, fall, and rise again of radiology informatics firm Merge Healthcare. The Milwaukee firm fell on hard times three years ago after an accounting scandal sapped confidence in the company and raised questions about its long-term viability.
Now under new management, Merge has reported four straight profitable quarters and has finalized two corporate acquisitions in recent months. Read all about it by clicking here, or visit the community at pacs.auntminnie.com.
