AuntMinnie.com Ultrasound Insider

Dear Ultrasound Insider,

While proper ergonomic practice, training, and new equipment can all help, increasing physical fitness is the optimal way for sonographers to prevent and overcome work-related musculoskeletal injuries.

That's what cardiac sonographer Doug Wuebben, National Football League's Cleveland Browns strength coach Mark Roozen, and National Lacrosse League's Colorado Mammoth strength coach Joel Raether believe, and they're sharing a fitness program for sonographers in a four-part series for AuntMinnie.com.

In part 2, they highlight the need for training and conditioning and offer a number of exercises to allow sonographers to be able to function in all planes of motion.

The third article in their series is the subject of this month's Insider Exclusive, which you have access to before it's published for the rest of our AuntMinnie.com members. For more exercises and tips for overcoming work-related musculoskeletal injuries for sonographers, click here.

We're also featuring two new columns from ultrasound veteran Dr. Jason Birnholz. In part 3 of his Practice of Ultrasound series, Birnholz reflects on the past, present, and future of ultrasound technology. He believes the fourth generation of ultrasound, currently in development, will be the most significant advance in ultrasound ever. In part 4, Birnholz reviews the practice of female pelvic ultrasound.

Also, contributing writer James Brice wrote about a clinical mission to India, sponsored by the American Society of Echocardiography, that combined echocardiography and teleradiology for a large underserved population. Click here to learn more.

Finally, shear-wave elastography has been found to improve breast ultrasound specificity, and nonradiologists are dramatically increasing their share of musculoskeletal ultrasound procedures.
