Founded in 2002, the company has been developing multitransmit synthetic aperture technology, which it believes yields a significant improvement in ultrasound resolution. Thyroid cancer has been a hot topic over the past few months. Researchers from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, believe that the aggressive use of imaging could be contributing to overdiagnosis and overtreatment of certain thyroid cancers. In particular, they're calling for new nomenclature for low-risk small papillary thyroid cancers to reflect their favorable prognosis. For the details, click here.
In another study, a research team led by Dr. Rebecca Smith-Bindman, from the University of California, San Francisco, concluded that basing the decision to biopsy a thyroid nodule on the presence of certain ultrasound imaging characteristics could reduce unnecessary biopsies by 90%.
