GE Healthcare has launched its Invenia automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) system in the U.S. following receipt of U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval.
First introduced at the 2013 RSNA meeting, Invenia is the rebranded version of the ABUS system acquired via GE's purchase of U-Systems last year. It features 3D ultrasound technology, GE's Reverse Curve transducer for conforming to a woman's anatomy, and Compression Assist, a feature that applies light levels of compression to the breast for better image reproducibility, according to the vendor.
The first U.S. installations of Invenia have been completed at Fairfax Radiological Consultants Breast Diagnostic Center in Fairfax, VA, and Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow, NY. GE said it plans to roll out Invenia nationwide in 2014.
