Philips Healthcare has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its Visiq mobile ultrasound scanner.
The scanner can be transported wherever care is needed, allowing for easy obstetric and abdominal imaging, according to Philips.
Visiq features a transducer that fits in the user's hand, touch-screen gesture controls, and many of the automatic image optimization features found on Philips' Epiq system, as well as built-in Wi-Fi for DICOM data transfer to a hospital or cloud-based PACS, Philips said.
The scanner is commercially available in China, East Africa, France, Germany, and India, according to Philips.
