FDA clears dBMEDx's bladder scanner

Ultrasound technology developer dBMEDx has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its new bladder scanner.

BBS Revolution allows users to measure patients' bladder volume noninvasively, a key component of catheter-associated urinary tract infection prevention programs, according to dBMEDx. In fact, the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is reducing payments by 1% for hospitals with a high number of hospital-acquired conditions, which include catheter-associated urinary tract infections.

The device offers a way for hospitals to determine whether a patient actually needs a catheter or not, the company said.
