Rivanna's ultrasound device IDs epidural space

Ultrasound technology developer Rivanna Medical is touting preliminary data that show its ultrasound device was 96% successful in identifying epidural space via its SpineNav3D real-time 3D image automation technology.

Dr. Anand Sardesai highlighted the ultrasound device, Accuro, at the Academy of Regional Anaesthesia of India (AORA) conference.

The smartphone-sized device is designed to guide a clinician using a needle or probe to a target within the abdominal, musculoskeletal, cardiac, and peripheral vascular anatomies. Rivanna's initial commercial application for Accuro is to help clinicians administer spinal anesthesia into the epidural space.

The firm plans to launch Accuro at the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) annual scientific meeting in San Diego next month.
