SonaCare debuts international HIFU prostate registry

High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) technology developer SonaCare Medical has launched an international registry for prostate cancer patients treated with its Sonablate system.

Available worldwide via a web-based platform, the High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Evaluation and Assessment of Treatment (HEAT) Registry will collect large volumes of procedural and outcomes data for Sonablate prostate tissue ablations, according to the company. It will be overseen solely by academic professionals and will yield longitudinal data about the efficacy of HIFU and its importance in minimally invasive ablative prostate care, SonaCare said.

The registry, which will run on the Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) software, has already enrolled more than 1,500 patients, SonaCare said. U.S. patient enrollment began this month.
