Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke has debuted ultrasound technology for the classroom that consists of portable machines outfitted with 12-lead electrocardiogram technology.
The devices allow students to view images of the heart as they measure electrical activity through the electrodes attached to a subject's body, according to the school.
Carilion School of Medicine said it is one of only a few to have a designated ultrasound curriculum. First-year students learn to identify basic anatomical structures, while second-year students learn to identify pathology.
