Preoperative staging of rectal cancer is crucial for identifying the best treatment path, and this staging has traditionally been performed either with endorectal ultrasonography or MRI. But these have their limitations, according to a research team from Peking University Cancer Hospital and Institute in Beijing. Shear-wave elastography (SWE) offers an alternative tool for staging.
