Insightec has received notice that Aetna will cover its MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgUS) technology to treat essential tremor. Aetna is the first national payor to come to this decision, the company said.
Essential tremor causes uncontrollable shaking and affects 10 million Americans, Insightec said. Focused ultrasound has been shown to be effective in treating these patients.
MRgUS for essential tremor is already covered by Medicare in all 50 U.S. states, according to the firm.
