Fujifilm Sonosite has launched a new AI-powered feature designed to assist clinicians in planning ultrasound-guided peripheral intravenous (PIV) access procedures.
Called PIV Assist, the technology will be available on the company’s Sonosite LX, Sonosite PX, and Sonosite ST ultrasound systems, and is designed to help identify candidate veins and assess vein size by measuring the maximum cannula size based on the catheter-to-vein ratio (CVR), it said.
Key functions include the following:
Color-coded guidance. PIV Assist color-codes veins according to the maximum recommended catheter gauge, with arteries marked in red to assist procedural planning.
CVR visualization. This feature calculates and displays the catheter-to-vein ratio in real-time and shows the depth to the center of the vein.
PIV Assist is intended to support procedural efficiency and clinician confidence and was developed using tens of thousands of scan images, the company noted.
