Dear AuntMinnie Member,
Breast imaging is the hot topic today in our Women's Imaging Digital Community, where we're featuring two articles examining new research and controversy in the field.
Our first story looks at efforts to develop a multidisciplinary approach to breast disease treatment. Two imaging-oriented groups, the American College of Radiology and the Society of Breast Imaging, had been working on the project with the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a group mostly dominated by breast surgeons.
However, both the SBI and ACR pulled out of the program earlier this month because they weren't able to reach agreement with the NAPBC over the incorporation of breast ultrasound guidelines, including ultrasound-guided interventions. The ACR now plans to launch its own accreditation program for breast imaging centers. Read staff writer Kate Madden Yee's report on the controversy by clicking here.
In other news in the community, contributing writer Kathlyn Stone reports on a new ultrasound tomography technique for breast imaging. A recent presentation on the technology found that it was particularly useful for imaging women with dense breast tissue. Get the rest of the details by clicking here.
Finally, the moment you've all been waiting for -- the release of the Minnies semifinalists! We've taken your nominations to compile a list of 193 candidates in 13 categories, from Most Influential Radiology Researcher to Best New Radiology Vendor, representing the best of the best in medical imaging.
Now, two finalists in each category will be selected by our expert panel, with the final winners announced in time to receive handsome trophies and the recognition of their peers at the upcoming RSNA show. To view the semifinalist list, just click here.
