Dear Women's Imaging Insider,
When Irving Stone penned the title "The Agony and the Ecstasy" for his 1961 novel about Michelangelo, little did he know the phrase would enter the vernacular as a pithy way to describe anything that combines pain with transcendence.
Stone's phrase is an apt description in radiology as well, especially for the transition from analog to digital mammography. Every center that's gone digital has had a mixed experience, facing sticky logistical challenges on the way to reaping the benefits.
In this month's Women's Imaging Insider, we bring you a report from two radiologists who have sound advice on how to make the switch. Click here for the article. As an Insider subscriber, you have access to the story well before the rest of our AuntMinnie.com members.
As for other news in your Women's Imaging Digital Community, check out our coverage from the Society of Breast Imaging's (SBI) biannual meeting in Colorado Springs, CO, as well as the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS) meeting in Boston. Articles cover topics such as why breast imagers are well positioned to ride out the changes healthcare reform will bring, how breast cancer risk assessment is firmly in the hands of mammographers, and why researchers believe ultrasound elastography is superior to conventional ultrasound in characterizing breast lesions.
