Israeli mammography and breast biopsy system provider ElscinTec Systems has begun installations of its Digimam digital spot breast biopsy system at U.S. and Canadian medical centers. ElscinTec, which recently obtained Food and Drug Administration clearance for Digimam, expects to sell about 30 systems in the U.S. and Canada by the end of 2002.
ElscinTec was originally part of Israeli multimodality vendor Elscint, but was taken private by former Elscint executive Yoav Zuckerman, who subsequently sold 50% of the company to Aryt Industries. Aryt plans to merge the operations of ElscinTec with another holding, Sygmed, to form a new company to be called Aryt Medical. There are some 600 ElscinTec mammography systems installed worldwide, according to the company.
