Increased sales of its Selenia full-field digital mammography system and the inclusion of revenues from recent acquisitions powered women's imaging vendor Hologic of Bedford, MA, to record results in its fiscal third quarter (end-June 30).
Third-quarter revenues increased 60% to $191.5 million, compared with $119.7 million in the same quarter of fiscal 2006. Net income for the period doubled to $24.7 million, compared with $12 million in the year-ago quarter.
During the quarter, Hologic recognized as revenue the sale of 328 Selenia systems. In addition to FFDM sales, growth in the period was also powered by the inclusion of revenues from Hologic's recent acquisitions, including AEG Elektrofotografie (acquired in May 2006), R2 Technology (July 2006), and Suros Surgical Systems (July 2006).
As of June 30, the company’s backlog of Selenia orders was 537 systems. Total backlog for all products was $222.1 million.
For the nine-month period, Hologic posted revenues of $535.8 million, a gain of 74% from $308.6 million in the same period of the last fiscal year. Net income totaled $62.5 million, compared with $28.9 million in the year-ago period.
