Women's healthcare vendor Hologic of Bedford, MA, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Canadian breast MRI technology developer Sentinelle Medical of Toronto for $85 million.
The transaction is expected to close in the third calendar quarter and is subject to customary closing conditions, including that of Sentinelle Medical's stockholders and Canadian judicial approval.
Sentinelle Medical develops breast imaging technologies using high-field-strength MRI designed for the early detection of breast cancer, as well as patient tables and visualization software. In 2009, Sentinelle Medical achieved revenues of approximately $15 million.
Hologic President and CEO Rob Cascella said the acquisition advances the company's strategy and portfolio in women's healthcare, especially in breast cancer detection and intervention, and broadens Hologic's presence in women's health by offering additional products through existing sales channels.
