Women's imaging firm Hologic has made the first installation in California of its Selenia Dimensions 3D digital breast tomosynthesis system.
The installation is at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian's Hoag Breast Care Center in Newport Beach, CA.
Hologic received 510(k) clearance for Selenia Dimensions from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in February. The technology is designed to produce 3D images of the inner architecture of the breast without distortion caused by tissue shadowing or density. It uses a panning gantry head that moves in an arc around the patient, collecting multiple tomographic slices that can be reconstructed into 3D volumes.
