Hologic revenue up, net income down in Q3

Service revenue related to its installed base of full-field digital mammography systems powered women's imaging vendor Hologic to higher revenue in the company's third quarter of fiscal 2012 (end-June 23).

Revenues advanced 4% to $470.2 million, compared with $451.1 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2011. However, net income slipped to $23.6 million, compared with net income of $36.2 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2011. The decrease was due in part to acquisition-related costs of $5.1 million in fiscal 2012's third quarter.

For the nine-month period, Hologic's revenues rose 7% to $1.41 billion, compared with $1.32 billion in the first nine months of fiscal 2011. Net income totaled $4.1 million, compared with net income of $129.6 million in the nine-month period of fiscal 2011. A net charge to operating expenses of $79.1 million attributed to the company's recent acquisitions was partly to blame for the decrease.

Hologic also confirmed that its proposed $3.7 billion acquisition of Gen-Probe is on track to close this week.
