Dear Women's Imaging Insider,
Dual-energy contrast-enhanced mammography could be a feasible screening alternative to breast MRI for women at high risk of cancer, according to researchers from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. And that's good news, as breast MRI isn't always accessible or cost-effective.
Dr. Maxine Jochelson and colleagues investigated the viability of dual-energy contrast digital mammography, and compared its performance with that of conventional digital mammography and breast MRI in women with known breast cancer. They found the technique to be comparable to breast MRI and better than conventional digital mammography in terms of identifying cancer. But more research is needed before it could be used in screening. Click here to read more.
