Women's imaging vendor Hologic has outlined in a letter to state government officials its plans for the closure of its Interventional Breast Solutions facility in Indianapolis as part of a restructuring of its breast biopsy business.
In a January 15 letter to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, Hologic said it would begin laying off employees on March 29, a process that would end in the permanent closure of the facility. About 140 employees would be let go in a series of layoffs through June 28, according to the notice.
The move is being made as Hologic consolidates its breast biopsy division and relocates responsibilities once handled in Indianapolis to other Hologic facilities, according to the company. Hologic announced the transition in February 2012 and has been implementing the move in phases over 18 months.
Hologic said that all employees were offered severance packages, and some were offered the opportunity to relocate.
