The Are You Dense Advocacy group announced that 10 states have joined its grass-roots efforts to ensure that women are informed of their breast density status if they are found to have dense tissue at mammography.
Oklahoma is the latest to stand alongside Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Washington, West Virginia, and Vermont in its introduction of density reporting bills as of 2016. Currently, 24 states have enacted legislation.
In 2009, Connecticut became the first state to require reporting of dense breast tissue to patients through mammography reports. In addition to the state bills, a federal density reporting bill currently sits in both the Senate and the House; it was introduced in February 2015.
